Ely Buendia’s Interviews (videos and a transcript)

According to a reliable source (who shall not be named), Ely and Diane were not together even before the reunion concert. I’m telling you this just now because I have high respects for Mr. Buendia and I want the news to come from him. So now that its out, yeah, its true. Good thing about this is that they are still good friends. Let’s wish them the best in their separate lives.

Startalk (below) and Showbiz Central interviews (under the cut) plus a transcript of the first interview. Forgive me, I was bored that’s why I made a transcript but I started to feel sleepy so I didn’t create a transcript for the second interview.

Startalk Interview with Butch Francisco

Butch: Mabuo ulit ang Eheads? (or something like that, putol ang record ko eh )
Ely: Well, ah, it was actually harder

On his health condition
Butch: Kamusta yung puso mo, yung heart condition?
Ely: According to my doctor, Dr. Wilfred Dy (?) ok na. I’m 100% cleared, after two months of rest pwede na ulit akong sumabak sa kung ano man. With regards to work, yes, pwede na kong kumanta.

Butch: Yung angioplasty naka three o four?
Ely: Pang-apat ko na this year.
Butch: Mahirap ba yung process?
Ely: Yung angioplasty? Um, technically hindi, mabilis lang sya. It takes about less than an hour kung magaling yung doctor. And you can be out of the hospital in a couple of weeks. Hindi tulad nung bypass which is a major thing na open-heart. Angioplasty is a simple procedure na binubuksan lang yung artery. Para i-unclog.
Butch: How did this change yung, this life-threatening situation that happened to you? Do you feel that you’re a new person now?
Ely: Parang when you look back at it sasabihin mo na this is a chapter. And the Eraserheads thing and my mom dying was definitely a chapter. Sasabihin ko na I’m glad to have survived that.
Butch: Of course you’re still mourning the death of your mom.
Ely: Yeah, it’s still very very fresh. Most of the time when you’re alone there’s only one thing I think of and it’s my mom.
Butch: And now we are a week away from All Saints’ Day so what are your plans?
Ely: Probably stay (home), my mom is with us in the house. She was cremated and that was one of her last wishes. She was thinking ahead coz she didn’t want us to spend time in the cemetery.

On the reunion concert
Ely: It was a bunch of die-hard Eheads fans who had the idea to talked to us and they gave us their concept. And the four of us all liked the concept and we said yes.
Butch: Yung relationship mo with the Eheads members, ano to mas nabuo ulit? Ngayon ba nagba-bond ba ulit kayo?
Ely: Well, we’re not going out and grabbing a few beers in the bars but…
Butch: Which you used to do?
Ely: Hindi rin (laughs). We were friends because we worked together and we always respected each other when it comes to work.
Butch: But you never really talked about yung break up?
Ely: Yeah, malaking misunderstanding ang nangyari dito because a lot of fans took it the wrong way. And maraming na-hurt because of that. My own reason was that I was simply trying to parang create a new career and it was impossible for me to do that if I kept on talking about or referring to something which is not part of what I was doing ngayon which is there was Mongols and then Pupil. So I was just trying to avoid a subject na para sa akin wala nang use or wala nang point.
Butch: Yung reunion concert that you never got to finish…
Ely: Para sa’kin tapos na yun. Fifteen songs, parang, that’s a good show. And nangyari lang na 30 songs kasi we were all planning talaga na this would be the last and the end of it. Para masaya na lahat sige tugtugin na natin lahat. Pero nung nandun na ko and the 15th song ended, parang for me I was really satisfied pero syempre I do want to make them happy and in a way din syempre nabitin din ako.

On his relationship with Diane
Ely: First of all I’m not going through kung ano man yung “rough” situation. Everybody has to do what you think is best for a relationship. She (Diane) is still my manager and she has always been my manager, she has guided me from the very start ever since the Mongols days up to the Pupil days up to the reunion. And she is still guiding me now. We are very very good friends, we’re the best of friends, we have a very very special relationship, she is the mother of my son, and there’s no person I want to work with or be with now than her.
Butch: Si Eon parang talagang “mini me” no, talagang kamukhang kamukha mo no. Yung condition mo, would that prevent you from your usual father-son bonding or things are the same with you?
Ely: Hindi naman naapektuhan yun, I mean I could be, knock on wood, a cripple or in a vegetated state but I would still have a relationship with Eon because our relationship really transcends.

Diane Ventura on Ely as a partner
Diane: There’s a pre-conceived notion about rockstars na babaero and all but super opposite si Ely while with me, I can only speak for myself. When we were together he was very very loyal. Sya yung tipong kahit nasa kabilang dulo ako ng mundo I know he’s loyal.
Butch: Any plans of getting back together?
Diane: Concentrate muna in getting back in shape, getting back into business and working on Eon before anything else. Things will follow naman eh.

Ely says thanks to Diane
Ely: Thank you for basically guiding me also through tough times. This is the second time na na-ospital ako and I’m really glad that you were there and did everything for me.
