Kurt Cobain + Converse = ?

March of this year when the news about a limited edition Kurt Cobain Chuck Taylors will be out in the market as part of the company’s “Welcome To The Converse Century” anniversary project. Fans went berserk about the news and blamed it to Courtney Love who has approved the project. I honestly think this is okay though the sad part would be seeing emo teens wearing them without even knowing who he really is. Most of them are just after the punk rock image, with guyliner, black shirt and nail polish and all. Ugh.

The shoes features lyrics from selected songs, Cobain’s own drawings, and writings published in the 2002 book Journals. He was a well known fan of the brand, even wearing a pair when he ended his life. The new collection includes versions of Chuck Taylor All Star, Jack Purcell and One Star shoes; all are said to be available in black and white versions. Release date was May this year so look for it in a branch near you. I hope it’s not too late for me to look for these (Hope they’re available here!) because I really want a pair. Oh, and that Ramones Chuck Taylors too! But that’s another story :)

And speaking of other (related) news, Converse said they have no plans for Beatles shoes.

I love Converse. In fact, my latest is a black-gray-white combination (leather). My mom stole my old Chucks, so I bought one last year. A Kurt Cobain Chucks, for me, is fine. Kurt deserves such things anyway. But, as you said, there will be kids out there, who go out out in black tees and all (even the style doesn’t fit them) and call themselves punks without even knowing what that word means, who probably will be wearing these shoes too. And these same kids don’t know know who Kurt Cobain was and can’t even sing a line from any of Nirvana’s songs. Oh, well . . . . .
Just bloghopping! ;o)

hi abelle, i love Chucks too :)
many kids today are just after the “porma”, kakalungkot tuloy.

i also think this could serve as a “tribute” to Kurt, like you said he deserves such things. after all, he’s one of those people who made a significant contribution to the music industry.

thanks for visiting :)

I opted for the high fashion converse. LOL. I have a pair of black and white Sara J. Parker’s. Can’t beat $8 shoes.
